Vagabond Samurai Manga's Inoue Paints in Cup Noodles Ads
posted on by Egan Loo
Manga creator Takehiko Inoue (Vagabond, Slam Dunk, Real) personally appears on camera in a set of television commercials for Nissin's Cup Noodles instant ramen. In the "Musashi Tōjō" ("Musashi Appears") ads, Inoue draws a painting of Musashi, the main character of his Vagabond samurai manga, on a giant (3-meter by 1.7-meter or about 10-foot by 6-foot) canvas. Inoue also narrates the commercials, which end with the message, "In this country, there is untapped strength."
The commercials are available for viewing on Nissin's official website in 30-second (middle 500K or high 1MB bandwidth) and 15-second versions (middle 500K or high 1MB bandwidth).
Three cameras filmed Inoue drawing the painting for 12 full hours. He also drew a giant mural of Vagabond on the walls of the new Kinokuniya bookstore in New York City for its opening ceremonies.
