New World Order reboot to start with revised story, end with completely new story

Kadokawa's Dengeki Bunko imprint announced on Wednesday that Shiden Kanzaki's Black Bullet light novel series will have a reboot with new content, as well as a completely new story. The reboot project, titled Black Bullet: New World Order, will release two novel volumes every month from November 2026 to February 2027. The volumes from November to December 2026 will contain the same story as the original novel series with some additions and edits, but starting from the volumes in January 2027, the story will diverge from the original, with the volumes releasing in February 2027 ultimately having a different ending.

The re-released novel series will have the same title as the previous novel series, and only diverges slightly in one volume. The final volume will have a completely new title. The title listing of the release dates below uses the English titles of the Yen Press release of the volumes, except in the slightly new divergent title and the new title. The release schedule of the rebooted volumes are as follows:

  • November 2026: Black Bullet: New World Order 01 - Those Who Would Be Gods, and Black Bullet: New World Order 02 - Against a Perfect Sniper
  • December 2026: Black Bullet: New World Order 03 Book 1 - The Destruction of the World by Fire, and Black Bulllet: New World Order 03 Book 2 - Vengeance is Mine
  • January 2027: Black Bullet: New World Order 04 Book 1 - Tōbōhanshi, Satomi Rentarō (slightly different from original Japanese title of volume 5: Tōbōhan, Satomi Rentarō, Yen Press English title: Rentaro Satomi, Fugitive) and Black Bullet: New World Order 04 Book 2 - Purgatory Strider
  • February 2027: Black Bullet: New World Order 05 Book 1 - The Bullet That Changed the World, and Black Bullet: New World Order 05 Book 2 - Justice & Unjustice (latter is a completely new title, and did not exist in the original novel run)

In addition, Kanzaki will launch an original work titled Aku no Shinzui (The Quintessence of Evil) under Dengeki Bunko in spring 2027. Dengeki Bunko will announce the new work's illustratior and other details later.

Kanzaki published the original seven-volume light novel series Black Bullet under Kadokawa's Dengeki Bunko imprint from July 2011 to April 2014. Saki Ukai illustrated the series. Yen Press released all seven volumes in English.

Hon Morino serialized a manga adaptation of the novel series in Kadokawa's Dengeki Maoh magazine from August 2012 to June 2014. Kadokawa published four compiled book volumes for the manga. Yen Press also released all volumes of the manga in English.

The novel series inspired a television anime that premiered in April 2014, just as the novel series was ending. Kinema Citrus and Orange animated the television series. The anime streamed on Crunchyroll, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the series.
