Oishinbo Gourmet Manga Gets New TV Anime

The ABEMA Anime Matsuri 2026 event on Saturday revealed that storywriter Tetsu Kariya and artist Akira Hanasaki's Oishinbo manga is getting a new television anime series titled Shin Oishinbo (New Oishinbo). Shinei Animation announced the anime at its 50th anniversary celebration stage presentation at the event.

The duo originally launched the manga in 1983. Shogakukan published the 111th volume in December 2014. The manga has been on hiatus since 2014.

The manga depicts the "fierce food showdown" between the newspaper Tōzai Shimbun's "Ultimate Menu" and gourmand Yuzan Kaibara's "Supreme Menu."

A previous television anime adaptation from Shinei Animation aired for 136 episodes from 1988 to 1992. The anime also includes two additional specials.

Viz Media has published five volumes of Oishinbo on its VizManga.com digital manga service and Viz Manga App, and has also published the volumes in print.

The manga has also inspired several live-action series and a live-action film.
