Kadokawa's Sneaker Bunko imprint announced on Friday that Ryo Mizuno's Record of Lodoss War: The Crown of the Covenant (Lodoss-tō Senki: Seiyaku no Hōkan) novel series is resuming. Sneaker Bunko stated that while it will take more time until it can publish volume 2, the imprint will publish part of the manuscript on the Kakuyomu website on October 22 at 5:00 p.m. JST (4:00 a.m. EDT).

Kadokawa published the first novel volume in Japan in September 2019 with illustrations by Hidari. The novel was the first new novel for the Record of Lodoss War franchise in 12 years.

Atsushi Suzumi launched a manga adaptation of the new novel in October 2019. Udon Entertainment released the three-volume manga in English. The company describes the story:

A new era of adventure has begun in the fabled world of RECORD OF LODOSS WAR!

Thanks to “The Crown of the Covenant”, the accursed isle of Lodoss has seen peace for 100 years. However, the ambitious ruler of the kingdom of Flaim now threatens to return Lodoss to a state of war. Heroes appear once more, as the young prince Lyle of Marmo seeks the help of the legendary high elf, Deedlit. Will a new “Knight of Lodoss” arise to save all the kingdoms?

Record of Lodoss War: Queen of Death, the first webtoon from Studio White, launched globally in August 2025. The webtoon is an official spin-off set before the original story, following the fall of the Kingdom of Kastuul on the island of Lodoss. The series originally launched in South Korea in May 2025. Southern Camel is credited with the adaptation, with Blanton providing the artwork. Studio White is a joint production studio established by Kadokawa, LINE Digital Frontier, and REDICE STUDIO.

Record of Lodoss War began as a series of magazine articles that recounted the pencil-and-paper role-playing game sessions of players who called themselves Group SNE. Those fantasy adventures evolved into a series of novels by Mizuno.

Mizuno's Record of Lodoss War stories inspired the 1990 Record of Lodoss War video anime series and the 1998 Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight television anime sequel.
