Evangelion Animator Studio khara Joins the Fight with Baahubali: The Eternal War

EVANGELION ANIMATOR STUDIO KHARA JOINS BAAHUBALI: THE ETERNAL WAR ALONGSIDE SLOWCURVE

The studio behind the acclaimed Neon Genesis: Evangelion franchise will contribute a dedicated animated sequence to the film

Announcement comes as BAAHUBALI heads to Annecy International Animation Film Festival for the prestigious “Work in Progress” program

NEW YORK (June 25, 2026) – Japanese producer SlowCurve and acclaimed animation studio Studio Khara have joined the upcoming animated feature film BAAHUBALI: THE ETERNAL WAR, an epic new chapter set within filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli's globally celebrated BAAHUBALI universe.

The production brings together leading studios and creative talent from India, France, the United Kingdom and now Japan. Studio Khara, internationally renowned for the EVANGELION franchise and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, will contribute a dedicated animated sequence to the feature.

SlowCurve will oversee the planning and production of Studio Khara's contribution, helping connect Japanese and international creators and production teams while supporting the project's broader international co-production efforts.

The Japanese animation segment will be directed by Akira Honma, with Noriko Itō serving as Character Designer. In addition, Mahiro Maeda, acclaimed director of EVANGELION: 3.0+1.0 THRICE UPON A TIME and internationally recognized for his work across animation and film, will join the project as a key creative contributor.

Alongside this announcement, newly revealed images created by Studio Khara have been unveiled for the first time.

BAAHUBALI: THE ETERNAL WAR expands the universe of the two blockbuster BAAHUBALI live-action movies, which were directed by Rajamouli and which have collectively grossed over 350 million dollars at the global box office. The film will give audiences their next major glimpse of the saga as part of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival's popular Work in Progress series on June 25.

Rajamouli and fellow producer Shobu Yarlagadda will be attending the festival. Rajamouli will introduce the Work in Progress panel and a special screening of his Academy Award-winning epic, RRR.

Following his appearance at the Annecy Festival, Rajamouli will bring his legendary catalogue of films to cinema audiences around Europe. A retrospective of Rajamouli's films, with an introduction and masterclass by him (RRR, the Baahubali duology), will run from June 26-28 at the French Cinematheque, followed by Maryada Ramanna and Eega at Grand Rex and UGC Le Halles in Paris on 29th and 30th June. He will then attend a special screening of RRR at Institut Lumière in Lyon and then attend Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland where he is being honored with a special award on their 25th anniversary.

Slated this year for June 21-27 in Annecy, France, the Annecy Festival is among the world's most prestigious showcases of animation filmmaking. Since the introduction of the Work In Progress programme in 2007, the titles showcased include Academy Award winners and box-office smashes, such as "Flow" and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse".

In the BAAHUBALI: THE ETERNAL WAR work-in-progress session, scheduled for June 25 at 5 p.m. local time, the panel – including director Ishan Shukla (“Star Wars: Visions”), art director Ajey Lele, co-writer Sowmya Sharma, animation director Antoine Charryron (“Batwheels”), and CG supervisor Simon Brown (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) – will debut never-before-seen pre-production and production footage from the film, as well as discuss the state-of-the-art filmmaking process behind this animated epic.

BAAHUBALI: THE ETERNAL WAR has been slated for a 2027 release exclusively in movie theatres. A preview is available HERE.
