Nostalgic Favortes Return to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in New Form
LOS ANGELES – (July 2, 2026) – Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. (KONAMI) is releasing a new Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) booster set in July! This nostalgic booster set revitalizes a classic feel in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, while introducing innovation that will appeal to collectors and competitive Duelists alike. Later that month, KONAMI will host two events that have become an annual tradition. Each of them will showcase new features that make them more engaging for Duelists than ever before!
In early July, Chaos Origins will arrive in stores, introducing cards that put a new spin on old favorites from the Yu-Gi-Oh! original manga and animated series. Yami Yugi and his most iconic monsters are the focus of this new booster set, and Yami Yugi is prominently featured on each booster pack and booster box. His cards are reimagined with powerful new effects, allowing them to be competitive in modern tournaments.
Yami Yugi's most iconic Ritual Monsters – Black Luster Soldier and Magician of Black Chaos – are reimagined in Chaos Origins. These monsters have a variety of effects that make them tough for opponents to defeat and allow them to dismantle an opponent's field. Plus, they share a powerful new Ritual Spell Card that can be used to Summon either one of them, making it easy to use both monsters together in a Deck. Both Ritual Monsters are available as extended art and regular versions, allowing Duelists to customize their Decks and use their favorite versions of these popular monsters.
Yami Yugi's Ritual Monsters aren't his only cards reimagined in Chaos Origins. Summoned Skull, Celtic Guardian, and Kuribohreturn as well, each with an effect that works well with Yugi's new Ritual Monsters.
The Sacred Beasts from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX are back in Chaos Origins too! Each one has a new version of its original power. They can't be Summoned, except by a “Sacred Beast” card effect, but there are lots of “Sacred Beast” cards in Chaos Origins to make Summoning them a breeze!
Chaos Origins also introduces two brand-new themes to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. These are the “Blitzclique” theme and the world premiere theme “Angelechy” that is modeled after the game of chess.
The “Blitzclique” theme contains a group of Thunder monsters with effects that activate in the hand to destroy something and then Special Summon either the monster that activated the effect or a different “Blitzclique” monster from the hand. Some of the “Blitzclique” monsters have effects that activate if a card is destroyed, synergizing with the destructive effects in the “Blitzclique” theme.
The world premiere theme inspired by the game of chess contains no Main Deck monsters in its theme. Instead, it uses Spells, Traps, and four different Synchro Monsters, and heavily involves placing its Synchro Monsters into the Spell & Trap Card Zone, where they have effects that will strengthen your position in a Duel. A Field Spell Card that resembles a giant chess board in the sky gets the entire game started. It lets you Special Summon the theme's lowest-Level Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck (the theme's “pawn”) each turn, and place another in-theme Synchro Monster into your Spell & Trap Card Zone. The new world premiere theme also includes a Trap Card that does just about everything. It places the Field Spell on your field, Special Summons a Level 2 or Level 7 in-theme Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck, and places an in-theme Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck into your Spell & Trap Card Zone. Plus, if your opponent goes first, you can activate it from your hand during the first Standby Phase!
Chaos Origins also contains a Level 8 Tuner that isn't directly in the chess-related theme, but works well with it. You can Special Summon it from your hand if there's a Synchro Monster on your field or in your Graveyard, and when it's Summoned, it lets you place up to three different Synchro Monsters from your Extra Deck and/or Graveyard into your Spell & Trap Card Zone. It also Special Summons a Token with a Level equal to the number of Synchro Monsters you placed.
In addition to monsters that will resonate with competitive Duelists and fans of the animated series, Chaos Origins has a few features that separate it from the core booster sets that came before it. First, the Starlight Rares included in the set use updated technology that make the colors more vibrant and the cards easier to read. The new Starlight Rare cards also contain a vibrant rainbow foil border. Second, Chaos Origins contains 5 extended art cards – each available in both Ultra Rare and Starlight Rare forms – marking this the first time a core booster set contains cards with art that breaks through the frame.
Return to an ancient era of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG when Chaos Origins officially releases in stores on July 3rd, 2026. Chaos Originscontains 100 cards in total, including 10 Secret Rares, 14 Ultra Rares, 26 Super Rares, and 50 Commons. Five cards in the set are available as extended art Ultra Rares and Starlight Rares, plus 20 additional cards are available as Starlight Rares. MSRP is $4.49 per pack, and each pack includes 9 cards.
One week after the release of Chaos Origins, Duelists are challenged to put their mastery of the new cards to the test at the North America WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota! This annual Advanced Format event determines which Duelists are strong enough to compete in the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. The WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP will take place in Japan this year, and only top Duelists at the North America WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER will earn the honor of competing. Young Duelists will also be eligible to compete in the Dragon Duel Championship, which will also award a trip to Japan, but in December, to attend Jump Festa, an annual celebration of manga and anime hosted by Shueisha, the publisher of various Jump anthologies.
New for this year's North America WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER, Duelists will be able to compete in the Genesys Championship! The Genesys Championship is played using the Genesys Format and will award incredible prizes like a complete set of Rarity Collection V (including Starlight Rares and extended art cards) to the winner. As always, there will also be a variety of Public Events in which Duelists can compete. The competition at this year's North America WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIER will begin on July 10, 2026.
Finally, from July 22, 2026 through July 26, 2026, KONAMI will be bringing the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG and Yu-Gi-Oh! MASTER DUEL to Comic-Con in San Diego, California! Just as in previous years, KONAMI's booth will feature game demos, a green screen photo booth where you can make your own personalized Yu-Gi-Oh! Token Card, a retail area where you can buy Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG products, and a “Duel the Master” area where you can use your Deck to challenge one of four Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG champions or high-ranking Duelists. Attendees will also be able to earn Demo Coins by participating in events at KONAMI's booth, and each Demo Coin can be redeemed for a random prize.
There are a bunch of new features at Comic-Con this year that weren't available in the past. This year's convention will feature a Deck-building Station that beginners can use to learn more about how to construct an effective Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Deck. In addition, Duelists who complete a demo will receive a new THANK YOU PACK that includes cards designed to help support and build upon the themes in the Demo Deck that each attendee will receive for the game demo. Experienced Duelists can also take on the new challenge of defeating all four “Master Duelists” in the “Duel the Master” area. New for this year's Comic-Con, seasoned Duelists who defeat all four of them will win a special prize. This year, attendees will also be able to purchase the 2026 Comic-Con International Exclusive Game Mat featuring chibi-style variant art of Black Luster Soldier and Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, while supplies last.
