The unlikeliest of collaborations debuted between the Love Live! franchise and Space Battleship Yamato remake series on Saturday. The accompanying illustration features Love Live! character Honoka Kōsaka and Star Blazers: Be Forever Yamato - Rebel 3199 character Sasha Iscandar Kodai in Tokyo's famed Akihabara shopping district.
Bandai Namco Filmworks' YouTube channel also streamed a short video of the Yamato crew exploring Akihabara from Sasha's perspective.
The seventh film of the Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199 series will open in theaters in Japan on October 30. The overall anime is debuting as seven films. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime under the title Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199.
Love Live! launched in 2010 through a partnership between anime studio Sunrise, music label Lantis, and Japanese publisher ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G Magazine. The initial project was a self-described "ultimate user-participation project" that let fans vote on the future of the fictional idols in the “school idol” group μ's. The project led off with a series of music CDs and animated music videos. The first Love Live! School idol project anime series premiered in January 2013, with the second season premiering in April 2014. The Love Live! The School Idol Movie film opened in Japan in June 2015.
