Singer Mao Uesugi will release her new single “Liberty Seed” on Saturday, October 18.
Known as the vocalist of fripSide during its third phase, Uesugi made her highly anticipated solo debut earlier this year with “Zero Ignition”, the opening theme for the TV anime Grisaia Phantom Trigger.
Her upcoming single, “Liberty Seed”, features a powerful yet melancholic sound, composed by Yui and Nanami of the gothic metal band Yousei Teikoku.
Blending themes of inner conflict and hope with a dramatic gothic melody, the song showcases Uesugi's exceptional vocal expression and emotional depth.
The track is also a collaboration with Micro Magazine's comic label Comic Ride, serving as the theme song for the promotional video (PV) of their upcoming new series.
The PV features narration by voice actor Maria Noda, also from the Hive Six agency, bringing further life to the story of this highly anticipated new serialization.

Artist Comment — Mao Uesugi
I'm truly honored to have sung the theme song for the promotional video of Comic Ride's new fall serialization.
My new song “Liberty Seed” was produced by Yousei Teikoku, a band I've long admired as a listener of the Yousei Teikoku's music scene. When I first heard that they would be producing this track, I was overjoyed and couldn't help but feel a sense of destiny in the collaboration.
The song carries a signature dark atmosphere reminiscent of Yousei Teikoku, and while recording, I immersed my own voice into that world — expressing the feeling of wanting to bloom, yet not being able to just yet; still believing in salvation and moving forward toward hope. I sang it with the determination to grasp that hope — both for myself and for those who believe in me.
During the recording, I struggled a bit with the unique melodies and phrasing typical of Yousei Teikoku, but Yui and Nanami gave me warm, thoughtful guidance to help me bring more emotion into my performance. Their kindness left a strong impression on me.
“Liberty Seed” will have its first live performance on October 18 (Sat) at the Machi★Asobi event in Tokushima. I truly hope everyone will look forward to it — and that this song will reach many hearts around the world.

Hello, this is Maria Noda, and I had the pleasure of narrating Comic Ride's new series PV. I was also in charge of the choreography for “Liberty Seed,” and even collaborated with Mao Uesugi on YouTube!
I've always been a big fan of Yousei Teikoku's dark and gothic musical style, so I was thrilled to handle the choreography this time. While shaping the dance, I discussed the song's image directly with Mao and aimed to express a new side of her strength and allure through movement. I hope many people will enjoy both the song and the dance together.
I also had the opportunity to attend the recording session and was deeply moved by how beautifully Mao's vocals blended into the song's world. Witnessing her performance come alive under the direction of Yui and Nanami was truly inspiring. I'm very proud to have been part of this work through choreography, and I can't wait for everyone to see the first live performance at Machi★Asobi!

Artist Profile — Mao Uesugi
In 2022, Mao Uesugi was selected as one of the dual vocalists for fripSide's third generation, making her artist debut with the opening theme “Dawn of Infinity” for the TV anime The Dawn of the Witch.
Despite her slender frame, her powerful and resonant voice became the emotional core of fripSide's twin-vocal lineup. Between 2022 and 2025, she participated in four singles and four albums, and embarked on a nationwide live house tour across all 47 prefectures of Japan.
Uesugi has also performed at Japan's three major anime music festivals — LisAni! LIVE (2023, 2025), ANIMAX MUSIX (2024), and Animelo Summer Live (2024) — further establishing her presence as a leading anime vocalist.
In 2025, she made her long-awaited solo debut, signaling a new chapter in her career as she continues to pursue greater artistic heights both as a solo artist and as a member of Sidearm.
