A Near-Future SF Tale of Love and Happiness Set in the Shibuya of 2050: Original Anime 'Re:bel Robotica' Greenlit for Production

Newly Drawn Key Visual & Comment from Mika Pikazo Now Unveiled!
A Special Event & Exhibition Confirmed at Anime Expo 2026 — Featuring a First-Look PV Screening On-Site‼

TOKYO — Production has been greenlit for “RE:BEL ROBOTICA,” an original near-future science-fiction anime set in the Shibuya of 2050. To mark the occasion, Mika Pikazo — who created the work's original story concept and original character designs — has contributed a newly drawn key visual along with a personal comment.

RE:BEL ROBOTICA” began in 2017 as a personal, self-published doujinshi work by Mika Pikazo, one of today's most sought-after illustrators, whose credits include the Disney collaboration “Disney Collection by Mika Pikazo” and character design for the Nintendo RPG “Fire Emblem Engage.” The project subsequently expanded with “RE:BEL ROBOTICA Episode #β (Beta),” developed together with screenwriter Ryō Yoshigami (known for the “PSYCHO-PASS” series). In 2022, two novelizations — “RE:BEL ROBOTICA 0” and “RE:BEL ROBOTICA” (written by Gakuto Mikumo) — were each published by Shinchosha.

Set in the Shibuya of 2050, the newly announced anime inherits the world of the original work while unfolding an all-new, anime-original story.

In the simultaneously unveiled newly drawn key visual by Mika Pikazo, the enigmatic girl Lily is depicted smiling and reaching out toward the viewer. Mika Pikazo also offered the following comment:

“Ever since childhood I have been captivated by the question of happiness — what it means to live amid duty and constraint — and I created this work out of a wish to discover something within this world. Through its endearing characters and the lives of the many people who appear in it, the work gives expression to both hope and a sense of the uncanny. I do hope you will look forward to the original anime ‘RE:BEL ROBOTICA’!!”

In addition, Mika Pikazo has been appointed Key Visual Illustrator for “Anime Expo 2026,” one of North America's largest celebrations of Japanese anime and pop culture, to be held in Los Angeles from Thursday, July 2 to Sunday, July 5.

Having created the event's key visual, the artist will also appear at a panel event and present an exhibition at the booth during the show. At the booth, special “RE:BEL ROBOTICA” mini-booklets will be distributed, and attendees will be among the first anywhere to view a teaser PV incorporating footage from the main production currently underway.

Stay tuned for the story that humans and "ROBOTICA" are about to set in motion in the Shibuya of 2050!

★ Comment from Mika Pikazo

RE:BEL ROBOTICA,” which I created as a doujinshi work back in 2017, is becoming a TV anime!

Over many years, through countless discussions and collaboration with a great many people, we have crafted a story about human beings living in a world where “happiness” has become something to be taken for granted.

Ever since childhood I have been captivated by the question of happiness — what it means to live amid duty and constraint — and I created this work out of a wish to discover something within this world. Through its endearing characters and the lives of the many people who appear in it, the work gives expression to both hope and a sense of the uncanny.

Please look forward to the original anime “RE:BEL ROBOTICA”!!
