Can a work of fiction even be considered a story if there's no conflict? Zonda's Blowjob Research Club doesn't have much in the way of tension, with the events just kind of unfolding rather than feeling like the consequence of choices made by the characters within this work. While the intentionally bland so that presumably male readers can more easily project onto him, lead Amaya hesitates at the call to action in each chapter, his protests are of little consequence, and the salacious events of a given chapter play out without any kind of friction. In this way, Blowjob Research Club is less a story and more, to borrow a phrase from ANN's own Rebecca Silverman, “plain ol' porn,” where the narrative of this work is just a vehicle to deliver sexual stimulation to a reader.
The thing is, though… Blowjob Research Club is pretty good plain ol' porn! While lacking in originality or storytelling acumen, this doujin has a white-knuckled grasp on the fundamentals of what makes a piece of erotica affecting. Even if the various women who want to blow Amaya don't have much personality outside of expressing their desire to have sex with him in different ways, the way their enthusiasm manifests is very hot. Their pupils transforming into a mirror of his penis every time he whips it out and they're confronted with this considerable part of his anatomy shouldn't work as well as it does, but the gimmick never gets old over the course of Blowjob Research Club's 200+ pages.
This work is also bolstered by Zonda being a talented artist with a very informed understanding of what people want to see in this kind of work. If you're reading this, you've probably read other hentai that feature characters inexplicably donning revealing cosplay outfits or traveling to luxurious locales to have sex. However, you probably haven't read one where the tongues are drawn this well, the poses and framing are so masterful, or one so willing to abandon logic in favor of sexually explicit scenarios. Is it weird that Amaya has sex with his mom with very little lead-up to that encounter and no discussion afterward of how this affects them or their relationship? Yes, it is weird, but also this isn't the kind of work that's going to let “believable character writing” get in the way of delivering rapid-fire sexual fantasies.
While I do wish Blowjob Research Club had more original ideas in it, this is about the best execution I've seen of plot points and tropes that are common to this kind of work. You won't come across anything new, but it's a masterclass in what it is doing and very much worth the read.

You sure can't complain, this book is exactly what's advertised on the cover! Protagonist Seishiro gets dragged into a club by his cute classmate, all about giving head, and he's the lucky guy who gets passed around all the members (and their teacher advisor). There isn't much in the way of story, with what little there is being set-up for the various scenes: a new girl joining the club, the club's advisor visiting Seishiro's home (and being revealed as an old friend of his mother), a summer trip for the club, dress-up day... the scenes are all kept pretty light, but it's all in good fun, with everyone eager and happy in the participation. There's even a bit of romance between Seishiro and his classmate Azusa.
Zonda's artwork continuously impresses. He's able to illustrate faces in the act of intense, cheek-imploding suction without resorting to bizarre anteater faces, and there's even a bit of cheeky humor in some of the illustrations (there's a recurring gag where Shirayuki's erection is “reflected” in the eyes of his club members and their pupils take on phallic shapes). Zonda draws very inviting-looking mouths and pleasantly-fleshy vaginas.
With its happy mood, phenomenal art, and cute cast, The Blowjob Research Club is a sure winner. I'd have liked a bit more story to go with the stellar art, but again, you definitely get plenty of what's advertised. Strongly-recommended.

I will say, for a title like this, I really respect the fact that more than half the book is dedicated to blow job scenes. Sometimes oral really does go underappreciated when it comes to a well-established sex scene. Sometimes it can be used to get things going well other times it can be used as a definitive finisher. Here it is very much the thing that ignites almost every major relationship throughout the course of the book and I respect it for that. The premise is really dumb, but I feel like it is a premise that knows it's really dumb as well. Once the story establishes that the main character has a mom who was conveniently responsible for starting the blowjob research club, I knew that there wasn't a single thing that I should've taken seriously in this. It is literally just an excuse to have a bunch of hot girls perform oral sex on this poor, nervous boy who's hung like a horse before it evolves into pure sexual madness.
But again, I do respect the fact that the blowjobs are front and center. The scenes are very detailed, multiple angles are shown and even multiple ways in which to give blowjobs are highlighted as well. There are even girls of different experience levels who need to be walked through it, so I do appreciate that variety. I'm very tired of stories establishing a premise that is somewhat unique but then do absolutely nothing with that premise outside of just getting the sex scenes going. There's a commitment here.
I wish a little bit more detail went into the character designs because almost all of the girls suffer from the same face outside of different hairstyles. But what it lacks in a distinct human style, it makes up for with a real artistic understanding of how to make a good blow job scene. If you're a fan of oral, then this was made for you. But even outside of that, it is still a very solid wish fulfilling high school story that technically has a good sense of progression with a solid ending. Nowadays, I feel like it's hard to come across a full book that loves its own core idea, so these bonus points I'm giving the story are warranted.
