Kadokawa and Gramedia's Phoenix Gramedia company announced on Wednesday that it has licensed Hajime Kamoshida's Seishun Buta Yarō//Rascal Does not Dream/Aobuta light novel series, and will release the first novel volume, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, in Indonesia "soon."

The novels' story is set in modern day Yokohama, and centers on protagonnist Sakuta Azusagawa. He and his younger sister Kaede are one of a handful of youths infected with a mysterious disease known as "puberty syndrome," whose exact effects vary per individual, and are usually tied to an individual's insecurities, self-perception, anxieties, or a relationship between the individual and society that reflects a modern social problem. Sakuta encounters the famous teen actress Mai Sakurajima, dressed in a bunny suit at a local library to deliberately grab attention, and finds that only he can see her. This manifestation of her puberty syndrome is, over time, slowly erasing her from the consciousnesses and memories of everyone around her. Sakuta is drawn to help her, as well as others who are dealing with puberty syndrome.

Phoenix Gramedia has also previously released Tsugumi Nanamiya's manga adaptation of the first light novel volume.

Hajime Kamoshida launched the novel series with the first novel volume in April 2014 with illustrations by Keeji Mizoguchi, and ended it with the 15th and final volume in the series titled Seishun Buta Yarō wa Dear Friend no Yume wo Minai (Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend) in October 2024. Seishun Buta Yarō wa Beach Queen no Yume wo Minai+ (Rascal Does Not Dream of a Beach Queen+), a short story collection, released in July 2025.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (Seishun Buta Yarō wa Bunny Girl-senpai no Yume wo Minai), the first television anime based on the light novel series, premiered in Japan in October 2018 and aired for 13 episodes. The anime adapts the story up to the fifth novel volume. Aniplus Asia aired a simulcast of the anime.

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl (Seishun Buta Yarō wa Yume-Miru Shōjo no Yume wo Minai), the anime film that adapts the sixth and seventh light novel volumes in the franchise, opened in Japan in June 2019. Aniplus Asia screened the film in various territories in Southeast Asia.

A sequel anime project adapted the eighth and ninth novels in the franchise: Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid. The Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out film opened in Japan in June 2023. Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid opened in Japan in December 2023. Odex screened the films in various territories in Southeast Asia.

Seishun Buta Yarō wa Dear Friend no Yume o Minai (Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend) film, the latest anime film, will open in theaters in Japan on October 16. The new film is teased as taking the story towards its finale. (The film shares the same name as the 15th and final novel volume.)
