Ani-One Asia is streaming the television anime of Moto'o Nakanishi's Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho novel series and the television anime of Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court's My Hero Academia: Vigilantes (Vigilante: Boku no Hero Academia Illegals) manga for premium members of its YouTube channel. Both anime are streaming as episodes air in Japan.

The Sword of the Demon Hunter anime premiered with a one-hour special first episode on the Tokyo MX channel on March 31. The anime will air for two consecutive cours (quarters of a year).

The anime was delayed from its July 2024 premiere after a planned one-hour special in June that same year, due to production delays.

Kazuya Aiura (Assassins Pride, Hori-san to Miyamura-kun OAV) is directing the anime at Yokohama Animation Lab. Deko Akao (Assassins Pride, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Noragami) is overseeing the series scripts, Taro Ikegami (Lapis Re:LiGHTs) is designing the characters, and Ryuuichi Takada, Keiichi Hirokawa, and Kuniyuki Takahashi from MONACA are composing the music.

Japanese rock band NEE perform the opening theme song "Continue," and Hilcrhyme are performing the ending theme song "Sen-ya Ichi-ya feat. Izumi Nakasone (HY)" (One Thousand and One Nights).

Nakanishi published the first novel volume, titled Suihō no Hibi (Days of Nothing), in June 2019 with art by Tamaki. The series' 14th and final volume shipped in November 2023. Futabasha published the first compiled book volume of Yu Satomi's manga adaptation of the novels in September 2021, and the eighth volume shipped on March 19. The manga runs in Monthly Action magazine. Seven Seas Entertainment is releasing both the novel series and its manga adaptation in English.

Yōsuke Kuroda is returning from the main My Hero Academia anime to write and oversee the series scripts. Takahiko Yoshida (Yowamushi Pedal, Cells at Work!) is designing the characters. Yuki Hayashi is returning from the main anime to compose the music alongside Shogo Yamashiro and Yuki Furuhashi.

Additionally, Yukihiro Watanabe is the art director, Haruko Nobori is the color designer, Yingying Zhang is the director of photography, Mizuki Sasaki is the 3DCG director, Kiyoshi Hirose is the editor, and Masafumi Mima is the sound director.

Kocchi no Kento is performing the anime's opening theme song "Kekka Orai" (All's Well in the End). The four-member rock band yutori perform the ending theme song "Speed."

The manga is a spinoff of Kōhei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia manga. The spinoff takes place before the start of the main manga.

Furuhashi and Court launched the manga in Shueisha's Shonen Jump GIGA magazine in August 2016. The manga then relaunched on Shonen Jump+ in December 2016. Viz Media began releasing the manga digitally in English in August 2017. Viz Media is also publishing the manga in print. Shueisha's Manga Plus service is also releasing the manga in English digitally. The manga ended in May 2022, and has 15 volumes.
