The comedy manga centers on Yoshiki Tanaka, a NEET so poor that his apartment's electricity is cut off. A beautiful girl suddenly appears in front of him, and different gods — from the god of poverty, the storeroom god, to the god of misfortune — also start appearing and cause commotion in Yoshiki's NEET life.Takayama launched the manga in Nemuki+ in 2015. Asahi Shimbun published the manga's fifth compiled book volume in June 2024.
Takayama began serializing the Haigakura manga in Ichijinsha's Zero-Sum Ward magazine in 2008. After the magazine ceased publication in 2015, the manga has since continued on the Zero-Sum Online service as Takayama's longest-running serialization. Ichijinsha has published 17 volumes so far with over 1.3 million copies in circulation (including digital copies).
The manga's anime adaptation premiered in Japan in October 2024, but delayed the eighth episode and onward that November because the staff decided they needed more time to maintain the series' quality. The anime restarted its airing from the first episode on July 3 earlier this year. The manga is also inspiring a mobile game titled Haigakura Senkai Puzzle.
Takayama's Amatsuki manga also inspired a television anime in 2008.
