French comic festival Quai des Bulles awarded the French-language version of Marco Kohinata's Akari manga the Prix Ouest-France award as part of its event this year. The story also won the ABCD Asia Award 2026 in July.

A committee comprised of festival organizers and reporters from the country's most circulated daily newspaper, Ouest-France, selected the manga through a vote.

This marks the first time a Japanese title has won the award.

The Quai des Bulles comic festival ran from October 9-11 in Saint-Malo, France.

Glacier Bay Books publishes the title in English and describes the story:

A quietly beautiful standalone story about mistaken identity, found family, and the profound power of art. Marco Kohinata's warm, softly textured lines and shading subtly evoke the color and shape, the fullness and complexity of human emotion.

Hero's Inc. released the one-volume manga in Japan in 2022.

The Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) hosted Kohinata as a guest at this year's event from June 6-7.
