Precure Franchise Gets Spinoff TV Anime Dual Shadow ~Precure Villain Heroines~

Toei Animation announced on Tuesday that the Precure franchise will receive a television anime spinoff titled Dual Shadow ~Precure Villain Heroines~ that will premiere next year. Unlike most of the previous spinoffs in the franchise, the new anime will feature an original story and characters.

Since the villain character Higashi Setsuna/Eas in 2009's Fresh Precure! became the hero Cure Passion, the Precure franchise has had a tradition of villains turning into heroes.

The Star Detective Precure! anime, the 23rd and latest main television anime in the franchise, debuted on February 1, and is ongoing. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime in North America, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and CIS.

Eiga Meitantei Precure! Fushigi na Niwa to Futari no Himitsu (Star Detective Precure! The Movie: The Mysterious Garden and the Secret of 2 People) — the film for Star Detective Precure! — opened in Japan on September 18, and ranked at #3 in its opening weekend. The film sold 358,000 tickets to earn 446 million yen (about US$2.82 million) in its first three days.

Toei Animation recently produced two 20th anniversary projects for the franchise. The Power of Hope: Precure Full Bloom television anime debuted in October 2023, and was a sequel to Yes! Precure 5 featuring the cast as adults. Mahō Tsukai Precure!!: MIRAI DAYS debuted in January 2025, and was a sequel to Witchy Pretty Cure!
