The battle fantasy manga follows a boy named Chidori who wants to shine and another boy Shin who believes his brilliance makes him a hero. Together, they face star spirits, who devour wishes.

Chida ended the Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki manga adaptation with the sixth compiled book volume in April 2021. Comikey publishes the series in English digitally.

The first anime premiered in January 2021. Funimation streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, and it also streamed an English dub. The second television anime season aired in January 2024. Crunchyroll streamed a dub for the season.

The anime also received two OVA episodes that were bundled with the third and fourth Blu-ray Disc and DVD home video volumes of the anime in May and June 2021, respectively. Funimation also streamed those episodes.

Chida ended the manga adaptation of P.A. Works' Hanasaku Iroha franchise in September 2012. Square Enix shipped the fifth and final volume in December 2012.

The 26-episode television series premiered in April 2011, and Crunchyroll streamed the series outside of Japan as it aired. The series expired on Crunchyroll in 2018. NIS America released the anime series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in two sets in 2013. It also released the 2013 Hanasaku Iroha: Home Sweet Home anime film.
