Manga author Masaki Andō announced on Friday that his Mojiponika! manga will end in the next issue of Kodansha's Afternoon magazine on November 25.
The comedy manga centers on Tsumugu, the son of an embroidery shop owner. He gets paid a big amount of money by Gina, a foreign exchange student who has a deep passion for kanji characters and yakuza films, to stitch kanji characters on her tokkōfuku (a traditional style of uniform mainly worn by gang members). Before his encounter with Gina, Tsumugu never thought it was a problem that he cannot read some kanji characters, but through her intense love for kanji, Tsumugu begins to discover the characters' meanings.
Andō launched the manga in Afternoon magazine in May 2025. Kodansha published the manga's first compiled book volume in October 2025, and the third volume on August 21.
Andō launched the Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki manga in Ichijinsha's Comic Rex magazine in May 2016. The series ended in September 2022. Ichijinsha published the manga's 13th and final volume in December 2022. The series highlights regional cultural differences from the area of Nagoya, Aichi. The manga's title character was appointed as a Nagoya Tourism Cultural Exchange Mission Ambassador in March 2017.
The manga had inspired a four-season television anime. The first season of the anime premiered in April 2019. The second season, titled Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki 2 Satsume, premiered in January 2020, and also aired for 12 episodes. The third season, Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki 3 Satsume, premiered in January 2021. The fourth season, Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki 4 Satsume, premiered in April 2022. Crunchyroll streamed all four seasons as they aired in Japan.
