The anime is directed by the late Tatsuo Satō (Martian Successor Nadesico, Stellvia, Atom The Beginning), as his final directorial work at NAGOMI and EOTA. Satō was also in charge of the anime's series scripts. The anime's production was completed under the leadership of assistant director Kentaro Mizuno (Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress, Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!!, Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode director). Satoru Fujimoto is designing the characters, and TWIN ENGINE is producing the anime.

REMOW describes the story:

Confronted with a grave sin committed by his own soul...
Fuuta Okeya is a middle school student who can see spirits. His life is turned upside down when he meets Kouko Ishigami, a mysterious transfer student.
"I'll destroy your soul and break the cycle of reincarnation."
Kouko reveals that the two share a fateful connection stretching back to their previous lives.
Why is Kouko after his life? And why must he fight her?
Determined to uncover the truth, Fuuta embarks on an extraordinary journey through his past lives, traveling across time and space—from the distant ancient past to the far future.
When all the secrets are finally revealed, will their intertwined destinies lead to destruction... or salvation?

Mizukami (The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, Sengoku Youko) began Spirit Circle in Shōnengahōsha's Young King Ours in May 2012, and ended the series in 2016. Shōnengahōsha shipped the sixth and final compiled volume in June. Crunchyroll began simultaneous publication of the manga in 2014. Seven Seas Entertainment published the manga physically in English.

Mizukami's The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer manga inspired an anime adaptation in 2022. Mizukami's Sengoku Youko manga inspired a three-cours (quarter of a year) anime adaptation in 2024.
