Hiroshi Negishi to Direct New Tenchi Muyo! Anime Pilot Episode

The seasoned director turns to Armiger Entertainment and Kickstarter to fund new animation.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – July 10, 2026 – Armiger Entertainment is launching another Tenchi Muyo! Kickstarter campaign on the heels of successfully re-releasing American Tenchi Muyo! comic books in a collectible omnibus edition. The campaign aims to fund a 30-minute standalone episode, Tenchi Galaxy, as proof of concept for a full-length series.

In collaboration with Hiroshi Negishi, director of Tenchi Universe, Tenchi Muyo! In Love, and Tenchi Forever, the company seeks to reintroduce Detective Kiyone and other fan favorites in animated form. The campaign is open to backers from all over the globe, including Japan, as part of ongoing efforts to reinvigorate the franchise.

When an artifact is stolen from the planet Jurai, Tenchi and the gang travel to the space pirate homeworld to retrieve it. Forced to fight in an intergalactic tournament for the amusement of rowdy spectators, they encounter an imposing space pirate queen and uncover long-buried secrets of Ryoko's tragic past.

The established English cast, including Matt K. Miller (Tenchi), Petrea Burchard (Ryoko), and K.T. Vogt (Washu) have all expressed their willingness to reprise their iconic roles. Sherry Lynn, the voice of Detective Kiyone, would be reprising her role for the first time in over two decades.

The project also features newcomers to the franchise, including Cristina Vee as Ayeka and the devilish diva and virtual idol Nerissa Ravencroft of hololive English -Advent- as an original character. Artist Phil Dragash has been brought on to design the characters. Stephen Davis of Night Rider 87 is composing original music. Additional cast and crew will be announced at a later date.

Tenchi Muyo! began as an OVA series in 1992 before proliferating into many different mediums and continuities. Tenchi Galaxy is not a direct continuation of any prior source material, making it unconnected to original creator Masaki Kajishima's Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki timeline.

Although Armiger Entertainment is an American company, Tenchi Galaxy is also open to Japanese backers thanks to the efforts of longtime producer Tōru Miura. Ikuko Kogiso of Creative Minds LLC has returned as a crucial bridge between American and Japanese parties. If the funding goal is reached, the company will coordinate with Japanese business entities to produce the pilot episode. The prospects of a new anime series thereafter rest largely on the success of the crowdfunding campaign.

ABOUT ARMIGER ENTERTAINMENT: Armiger Entertainment, LLC was founded by Wesley Vaughn to revitalize interest in Japan's overlooked gems of yesteryear. The current emphasis on Tenchi Muyo! marks his efforts to bring back a favorite franchise in a big way. In 2025, the company successfully utilized Kickstarter to reprint American Tenchi Muyo! comic books for backers outside of Japan.
