Tickets Available for Kilkenny Animated Festival, Including Naoko Yamada Masterclass

Tickets are now available for the Kilkenny Animated festival in Kilkenny City, Ireland from Friday September 11 to Sunday September 13. It will include a live masterclass by the director Naoko Yamada on the Saturday at 1 p.m.

The schedule of events is as followed - tickets are available for the separate events .here. All of the events listed below will be at the Watergate Theatre, except for the "We'll Dub It Live!" show on Saturday.

Friday

10 p.m. - Late night screening of Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue, introduced by the director Tomm Moore of the animation studio Cartoon Saloon.

Saturday

10 a.m. - Screening of The Colors Within, introduced by the film's director Naoko Yamada

1 p.m. - 90-minute director masterclass with Naoko Yamada. The event is described as follows: "Naoko Yamada shares insights into her creative process, artistic influences and her approach to storytelling through animation. Featuring film clips, discussion and audience engagement, with translation throughout."

3 p.m. - "We'll Dub it Live! - Ferg & Stephen Take on Anime" - This 60-minute event will take place at Home Rule Club. Described as "a gloriously chaotic comedy show celebrating the art of getting lost in translation. Created and hosted by Fergal Brennan and Stephen Colfer, inspired by questionable anime dubs, this interactive performance takes a beloved anime scene and throws the original script out the window."

5.30 p.m. - Screening of A Silent Voice, introduced by the film's director Naoko Yamada

Sunday

12 noon - Anime's Journey to the West – An Illustrated Talk by Helen McCarthy (60 minutes)

4 p.m. - East West Anime - A panel moderated by Andrew Partridge, Chief Content Officer of TOHO Europe, and featuring the authors Helen McCarthy and Charles Solomon, discussing "how culture, language and translation shape anime's reception across markets."

6 p.m. - The Irish and UK premiere of the feature film, The Keeper of the Camphor Tree, aka The Camphorwood Custodian, introduced by Andrew Partridge. The film is described as follows:

"Rich with emotion, mystery and quiet wonder, the film follows an ex-convict whose life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters a mysterious tree said to grant wishes. As the story unfolds, The Camphor Tree explores themes of redemption, regret and the choices that shape our lives in a deeply human way that has become a hallmark of contemporary anime storytelling."
