I'm a pretty petty person at heart and enjoy many of the revenge fantasies I've read, but even I squirm away from the magic at the heart of Magic Repo Man: Dumped by My Party, I'll Cash In With a Cute Support Fairy to Become the Strongest!, Volume 1. In part because debt sucks and living in poverty gives one a completely different idea of what being “in debt” does to a person. And because, with a title like “repo man,” I was actually hoping for a story in which someone confiscated unpaid-for horses and carriages. Oh well.

Instead, we meet Lent, the fourth wheel of a team that believes it's a tricycle. Dumped with extreme prejudice, Lent finally unlocks his truest power, which is basically capitalism, forcing his former team members to be in MP debt to him functionally in perpetuity.

Luckily, Lent is a good guy, and while sure he'd like to get his loan back, he also really just wants to adventure along with his evil robber baron fairy companion. As this volume comes to a close, Lent discovers another outcast, and clearly they will team up to get back at yet another party full of assholes.

On the positive side, hopefully this manga will explain revolving credit in a way that saves some folks from the evils of money, or MP, lending.
