Detective Conan Creator Already Drafted Final Manga Chapter

Detective Conan manga creator Gōshō Aoyama reported over the weekend that he already drafted the thumbnail layouts (called name in Japanese) for the final chapter of his massively popular manga series. Aoyama made the revelation during an interview segment on YTV's 24-Jikan Terebi Saishin Jōhō SP (24-Hour TV Latest News Special) program with singers Taiga Kyōmoto and CHANMINA on Saturday.

During the segment featuring Aoyama, CHANMINA (who is a major Detective Conan fan) commented that she is the type of person who thinks things out by starting from the end, and working backwards. For example, she lives her life by thinking about her eventual retirement. She asked the manga creator if he is the same.

Aoyama quickly answered, “I have drafted the thumbnail layouts for the final chapter [of Detective Conan].” Almost lamenting (or perhaps reeling in shock), Kyōmoto replied that he has heard that as a rumor before. Not missing a beat, Aoyama jokingly asked if Kyōmoto and CHANMINA would like to see those thumbnail layouts. Chamina was elated at the prospect while Kyōmoto showed restraint, to Aoyama's amusement. Aoyama ended the interaction by stating the draft is entertaining.

Aoyama provided the t-shirt artwork for 24 Hour Television: Love Saves The Earth (24-Jikan Terebi: Ai wa Chikyū o Sukuu, YTV's annual 24-hour summer charity telethon. The artwork features Detective Conan characters Conan Edogawa (Shin'ichi Kudo), Ran Mōri, Kogorō Mōri, Eri Kisaki, Hiroshi Agasa, Ayumi Yoshida, Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya, Genta Kojima, and Ai Haibara. 24 Hour Television: Love Saves The Earth is set to air on YTV between August 29 and 30.

Aoyama began serializing Detective Conan in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in January 1994. The anime adaptation began airing in 1996 and has gone on to spawn 29 feature-length films, a collaboration with the Lupin III franchise in 2009 and 2013, and a collaboration with Star Detective Precure! in April 2026.
