New Madoka Magica Film's Staff Asks Fans Not to Post Spoilers

The staff for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise released a statement on Thursday, asking fans to refrain from posting spoilers from the upcoming Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising to social media, streaming services, and other venues until September 12. (The film opens two weeks earlier on August 28.)

The previous film, Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion, returned to Japanese theaters this past Friday, and these "revival" screenings are ending with an exclusive first look at the first minutes of the Walpurgisnacht: Rising sequel. The franchise's staff are asking fans to avoid post spoilers from this exclusive first look also, at least until September 12.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising is the sequel to Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion. The staff announced the new film during the Puella Magi Madoka Magica 10th anniversary event in April 2021.

The film saw numerous delays for its release, the most recent of which happened in January due to production circumstances. Prior to the most recent delay, the film was set to open in Japan in winter 2024 but was delayed until winter 2025, and subsequently until February 2026. Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising will open with IMAX screenings in addition to regular screenings on August 28 in Japan.

The Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime series premiered in January 2011. The anime series was later adapted into Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal compilation films in October 2012. A sequel film, Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion, opened in October 2013. Aniplex of America released the television series, two compilation films, and the sequel film in North America. Crunchyroll and Funimation also streamed the series.
