Seiji Kishi Directs Maiden Blood Original TV Anime at Polygon Pictures

Pony Canyon revealed on Friday that director Seiji Kishi will direct a new original television anime series titled Maiden Blood that will debut in 2027. Pony Canyon said it will announce international release details at a later date.

The dark fantasy action anime will star Iori Saeki as Eva and Yukari Anzai as Epica.

Pony Canyon describes the series:

Armageddon—the final war between good and evil, fought at the end of the world. Its destined outcome was overturned. “I don't want to die.” That desperate wish, that hopeless human ego, gave power to the Evil God. Eight billion human beings were offered as sacrifices, and only a handful were allowed to survive, doomed to be toyed with and tormented as playthings of the Evil God. Since the dawn of the universe, the Frashokereti—the Renewal of the World—has been repeated countless times. But here, for the first time, it has failed.

The sun will rise no more. In a world where the very laws of nature have gone mad, there is only one thing of value: human blood. Blood is currency. Blood is fuel. Blood is—a weapon.

After countless sacrifices, the mages devised a single ritual: a forbidden art that transforms a girl's blood into a blade capable of destroying demons. Turn blood into a weapon. Turn life into a weapon. Turn humanity itself into the final weapon against the demons. The chosen… the survivors… the strongest, cursed blood warriors. Blood warriors.

The younger sister, Epica, is the strongest blood warrior, her soul stolen away. The elder sister, Eva, has been unable to walk since birth. Kishi (Persona 4, Danganronpa, Assassination Classroom, Angel Beats!), scriptwriter Makoto Uezu (Scum's Wish, Kengan Ashura, KONOSUBA, Yuki Yuna Is a Hero), and Pony Canyon are credited with the original work. Keiji is directing the anime at Polygon Pictures, and Uezu is overseeing the series scripts. LAM (Witch and Hound, takt op. Destiny, Technoroid Overmind) is the original character designer. Composers include: Keiichi Okabe (Yuki Yuna Is a Hero, NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a), Kuniyuki Takahashi (Tune In to the Midnight Heart, Death March to The Parallel World Rhapsody), and Taichi Jōraku (insert song for The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess OAV).

Other staff members include Satoki Iida as sound director. Pony Canyon is producing the music, and MONACA is credited with music production cooperation.
